In October of 1991 my sister and I quit smoking. I had been a smoker for over 15 years, my sister even longer. We had been inspired by a friend who had a quadruple bypass when he was 40. He said the scars that he had from that surgery were not pretty on a man and certainly were not attractive on a woman. It wasn't easy, but we did it! A year later my sister would be diagnosed with colon cancer. She was 36 years old and had a long road of treatment ahead. She said that she was grateful that she had quit smoking on her own and not because she had cancer. She lost her battle 8 years later, but through all that stress neither of us went back to cigarettes. It became so important to be as healthy as possible.
I feel that weight loss is that important to me in my life right now and I equate it to when I quit smoking. It's for the same reasons and will have the same benefits. I will be healthy, I will save money, I will feel better about myself for doing it. The biggest difference is that I won't GAIN those 10 to 15 pounds I did when I gave up smoking.
I started back at Weight Watchers because I know it works for me. I cannot do it by myself, lord knows I tried. I really need the meetings and my "mentor" in this journey, Rosie, is the piece of the puzzle that just works for me. I also love to see other people succeed and like to be part of group that has the same goal in mind.
So here we go.....again! Counting points, getting to those important milestones and making better choices.
